  • Youth Shoots

    On Thursday, 14th November, Youth Shoots delivered a comprehensive training session to a group of Year 7-10 students. The primary aim of the day was to equip each participant with the confidence to open up conversations on emotional health and well-being. The session also focused on providing students with tools to build resilience in facing daily challenges that may negatively impact their mental health, and on fostering the use of realistic coping strategies. As a result, students are now better prepared to develop into confident speakers and organisers, aligning with the school's Anti-Bullying and Junior Leadership Team ethos.

  • Black History Showcase

    On Thursday 24th October, Barking Abbey celebrated Black History Month with a showcase. The event began with an inspiring welcome from the Mr Roe, who highlighted the importance of Black History Month as a time to reflect on the contributions, struggles, and achievements of Black individuals throughout history. The singers covered popular songs from influential Black artists. Their renditions of songs stirred the audience, with heartfelt solos and harmonies that emphasized themes of resilience, hope, and pride.

  • Great BA Bake Off
    13 Nov 2024

    The JLT held its inaugural Great BA Bake Off on Friday 8th November. In total, over 50 pupils participated, both as bakers and helpers. The event commenced with parents and teachers circulating around the canteen, admiring the impressive creativity and skill displayed by the pupils. Following this, one by one, the pupils presented their cakes, cupcakes, traybakes, brownies, and cookies to the head judges, who faced the daunting task of evaluating all the outstanding entries.

  • Walk for Humanity

    On Saturday, 5th October, Barking Abbey JLT, accompanied by Headteacher Mr. Roe, participated in the 5k Walk for Humanity charity event. The weather was kind, and the JLT met early in the morning, traveling to Archbishop's Park, where they joined a samba warm-up. From there, they set off on their 5k walk, passing iconic landmarks such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, the London Dungeons, the National Film Theatre, Sea Life Aquarium, and many more famous London sights. It's fair to say that the JLT would not have won the 5k race, but that was because we took the time to appreciate the beauty of London and truly enjoyed the walk, as the photos show.

  • GCSE Results Day

    Last week we celebrated our amazing sixth form results and the fact that we had improved on our 2023 results in every measure in spite of the higher grade boundaries. Today we celebrate achieving the ‘double’ with improvements at every level at GCSE compared to 2023. Like all schools we were expecting our 2024 results to be lower than last year as the exam boards have reduced the number of pupils getting each grade and made achieving the top grades even harder. To find that our amazing young people have improved on 2023 in every measure is outstanding.

  • Exam Success

    Once again Barking Abbey have smashed it with outstanding A level and Vocational results. Grade boundaries have returned to 2019 levels and all schools were expecting a drop on their 2023 results. Nationally a drop at the high end was also expected. Not at Barking Abbey.

  • Science Fair
    11 Jul 2024

    Member of the Sixth Form Council, JLT and Science Department led by Mrs Kapil have worked incredibly hard to put on Barking Abbey’s first science fair! It was wonderful seeing pupils from all year groups coming together inspiring each other and producing some incredible science projects. We had hayfever, ecosystem, volcanoes, DNA, solar system and many more projects. The winners were announced by Mr Roe.

  • Music Summer Concert

    Our Barking Abbey musicians made us proud again with a stellar performance in this summer's concert. The evening was rife with bass, treble and highs and, not least, cheering and applause. Between the three bands, orchestra and the vocal group, few genres were left unchecked. This year we also showcased the impressive Year 9 film music projects, so who knows what will be next.

  • Year 11 Prom

    On Tuesday, 25th June, Barking Abbey School's Year 11 students celebrated their prom at the Prince Regent Hotel in Chigwell. The evening was a glamorous affair, with students arriving in stunning attire, some even chauffeured in impressive cars. Staff members also attended, looking equally splendid. The evening was filled with joy, as students and staff enjoyed a night of delicious food, lively dancing, and abundant laughter.

  • Centenary Garden Celebration

    On Saturday 22nd June we held an Afternoon Tea to celebrate of our centenary garden at the Longbridge Road campus. Alumni from a number of decades as back as the 1940’s were able to join us in the sunshine for this wonderful event. Members of the Junior Leadership Team gave up their time to give tours of the school and to answer questions about the present day Barking Abbey. They were an absolute credit to themselves and the school.
