GCSE Results Day

22 Aug 2024

Last week we celebrated our amazing sixth form results and the fact that we had improved on our 2023 results in every measure in spite of the higher grade boundaries. Today we celebrate achieving the ‘double’ with improvements at every level at GCSE compared to 2023.

Like all schools we were expecting our 2024 results to be lower than last year as the exam boards have reduced the number of pupils getting each grade and made achieving the top grades even harder. To find that our amazing young people have improved on 2023 in every measure is outstanding.

  • At the top end we have 1% more grade 9s with a total of 143 grade 9s. Outstanding given the expected national large reduction at the top end.
  • 25% of our grades were at 9-7 and 60% at 9-5. Both increases on 2023.
  • One student achieved all 9s and 15 students achieved all 9 or 8 grades.
  • In computer science 10% of students (out of 71) achieved a grade 9 which is phenomenal.
  • For our disadvantaged students we closed the gap again at 9-5 for English and maths from 8% last year to 7% this year. In 2019 it was 15%.
  • The performance of our SEN students, including our ARP pupils who sat their first GCSEs this year, has improved with 11% of them gaining 9-5 English and Maths.

Executive Headteacher Tony Roe said ‘Once again we are immensely proud of our pupils and everything they have achieved. So many of them have overcome huge obstacles to triumph at GCSE and set themselves up for success in Post 16 education. Today we will be busy enrolling into our oversubscribed sixth form and ensuring that they continue their success in this crucial next stage.’
