World Autism Awareness Day
World Autism Awareness Day is observed annually on 2nd April and is dedicated to raising awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The aim of this day is to foster understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals with autism, as well as their families and communities. It also serves to encourage inclusivity and the development of improved support systems for those on the autism spectrum.
On the day, we hoped to achieve the following:
- Educating students and staff about autism.
- Encouraging everyone to wear blue, the colour associated with Autism Awareness Day, symbolising calmness and acceptance.
- Promoting understanding and kindness.
- Assembly presentations.
By marking the day in school, the community had the opportunity to engage in a meaningful way. Breaking down stereotypes, fostering empathy, and ensuring that all individuals feel valued and supported. The ultimate objective is to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for people with autism.
A special commendation goes to one of our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, who has made the school proud by proactively approaching senior leadership to facilitate this event. With the support of the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors across both sites, the day was a remarkable occasion for raising awareness and promoting inclusivity.
