Mental Health Awareness Week

04 May 2023

Barking Abbey held Mental Health Awareness Week on Monday 24th April to Friday 28th April 2023.

The week was designed to encourage students and teachers to explore mental health in schools and its impact day to day. Year 7-11 where all in involved across both campuses meaning over 1800 students had access in engaging the 3 main focuses.

  1. A PowerPoint during form time explaining mental health challenges, types and how to help conquer stress and anxiety. This was in preparation for mental health seminars which took place on site delivered by Mind of the Student. This was a chance for students to interact and receive advice about different stages they are at in their school life.

  2. Lunchtime wellbeing clubs on both campuses for students to meet new friends, buddies, or a companion to talk to with similar interests and hobbies.

  3. A chance to write and send a message of thanks to another student for always being there or helping in a particular situation.

All activities were well received, with some students asking to write more positive messages to promote mental health among their peers.

We will continue to promote a culture of positive mental health going forward.
