  • Football academy student-athlete makes his senior international debut

    A huge congratulations to Abbey Year 13 student-athlete Kymani Nelson on making his senior international debut for Montserrat against Guyana in the Concacaf Nations league match. Kymani produced a fine display of shot stopping as he made a string of saves late on in the game. Director of the Boys football academy Carl Emberson said: “What a great experience for Kymani, we are all delighted for him. He has shown a tremendous attitude as a student-athlete at Abbey.

  • Abbey Academy boys lose cup final penalty shoot out

    Barking Abbey 2-2 ShenField PENS 3-5 Barking Abbey development squad battled hard to try and retain the Coomer cup Trophy they won pre pandemic in 2019. Shenfield made it difficult by keeping everyone behind the ball and looking to counter-attack. The first half was more of a chess match with both teams trying to work a goalscoring opportunity, Shenfield getting the first real chance of the match where Callum McEvoy made a smart save in the 23rd minute. Minutes later Abbey had a shout for a penalty when Zolani Dlodlo burst clear only to be tumbled over from the on-rushing Shenfield Keeper!

  • Abbey boys clinch Essex U19 Open Cup

    A superb team performance allows team Abbey to be crowned Essex Open Cup Champions. A tough game was anticipated against a strong SEC college who club partnership with semi-professional side Concord Rangers. However, Abbey started brightly and took the lead in the 22nd minute when Andre Anderson calmly volleyed home from close range. SEC College responded quickly and forced Abbey keeper Kymani Nelson into two great saves, first save saw Nelson palm away a fierce drive, the second Nelson stood up well to save with his legs.

  • Abbey Boys Football Academy advance into another cup final

    Team Abbey had to fight hard in the semi-final of the Coomer cup against a strong Seevic Storm side in what was our second semi-final match of the season. Amir Icare equalised for Abbey in the first half before Seevic took the lead again. Abbey left it late with just two minutes left Peter Angelov managed to wriggle clear of his marker and send the tie into Extra Time. It was again the quality of Angelov that was to prove to be the decisive moment of the match, when with 1 minute of extra time remaining and the dreaded penalty shootout looming, Angelov pounced with a fantastic right footed volley from the edge of the Seevic box to snatch a hard-fought win and put Abbey into another final and help keep the dream alive of a Team Abbey Quadruple!

  • Abbey boys football academy pass National Elite Super Cup test

    Barking Abbey Boys Football Academy sealed another quarter-final place after defeating a strong Wilsons Grammar school 3-2 in last 16 of the U18 National Elite super cup. Abbey burst into a 2-0 lead with goals from Mekhi Stanford-Clarke and Andre Anderson. Wilson’s school responded just before half time when a mistake allowed Wilson’s striker to nip in and score. Abbey responded immediately after the break to make it 3-1 when Euan Mutale side footed in a whipped in cross from Mekhi Stanford- Clarke.

  • Abbey boys academy beat Seevic Storm to claim their first final spot of 2022

    Abbey sealed their first final of 2022 with a superb 6-0 semi-final win against Seevic storm. Goals from Andre Anderson, I’zac Clarke, Joel Jekennu, Billy Karby and Jack Turner saw Team Abbey cruise past Seevic Storm, where they will now meet South East College in the Essex Open U19’s final. The Abbey boys started brightly and quickly took control of the game. A brace from Anderson allowed the boys to go in 2-0 up at half-time.

  • Abbey advance to the last 16 of the ESFA National Super Cup

    Barking Abbey Boys Football Academy came through another tough National cup encounter to book a place in the last 16, which will be played at home against either Wilson Grammar school or Bede’s independent school. Abbey started strongest against a tough AFC Sudbury side and took the lead in the 15th minute when a fantastic through ball from Adrijus Lapacinskas found the run of Euan Mutale who calmly drove home to put Abbey into a 1-0 lead. AFC Sudbury responded instantly and equalised in the 18th minute when Callum McEvoy could only parry a fierce Sudbury shot into the roof of the Abbey net. However, Abbey replied brilliantly in the 26th Minute when Andre Anderson played a glorious pass to find the run of Mekhi Stanford-Clarke who volleyed home past the Sudbury Keeper.

  • Boys Football Academy cruise into second semi-final of the season

    Barking Abbey’s football academy squad make it two semi-finals to look forward to in 2022! Barking Abbey Football Academy produced a fantastic performance as they continue in their quest to retain the Coomer cup that they won over two years ago!! It is only from the start of this 2021 season that the boys have been allowed to attempt to retain the Coomer Cup due to the Covid 19 pandemic! It was a long journey up to West cliff Grammar school, Southend on Sea but the academy boys applied themselves well and started the match brightly, Abbey were threatening the Westcliff goal immediately by forcing early pressure on the Westcliff defence!

  • Student earns scholarship offer at EFL Championship Club

    Barking Abbey Football Academy student Peter Angelov has been quietly going about his football business over the past two weeks by attending training and trial matches at Championship club Queens Park Rangers FC. Angelov was scouted by QPR after impressing at a competition that was to celebrate 150 years of the FA Cup. Peter scored 7 goals during the round robin competition that had former professionals playing such as Andy Johnson formerly of Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham and England striker. Football Academy coach, Carl Emberson, sent Peter as a representee of Barking Abbey Football Academy so that Upton Park FC (formerly known as West Ham United FC) in the early years of the FA Cup competition would have some younger talent to help them hopefully qualify for the final, which is going to be held at St Georges Park the home of our National Football team England!
