Dance Spring Showcase
24 Apr 2025On Thursday 3rd April, the Dance Department performed in their annual Spring Showcase. Students from Years 7-13 had the opportunity to share their work from the Autumn and Spring terms with staff, friends and family in the Sandringham Campus Main Hall. It was an outstanding night with extremely professional and high-quality performances from students and special guest artists, a true display of UK Dance talent. The energy in the room was contagious and inspiring for all in attendance and we are beyond proud of our phenomenal students for their performances, entertaining everyone with another incredible night of Dance.

BADD World Tour
11 Jul 2024Our BADD Word Tour, end of year Showcase was another yearly success. This show incorporated pieces choreographed by Mrs Agyekum, Mr Turner, Miss Maynard, Mrs Cope, and the students. This show varied in dance styles, music genres, and had two mega pieces - Inspired by Michael Jackson and Savage x Fenty by Rihanna.

LYG Regional Finals
26 Jun 2024Wednesday 26th June, the Dance Department took our LYG Borough Final winners to The Copper Box Arena to compete in the London Youth Games Regionals Dance Competition and came 5th out of approximately 15 schools. We are extremely proud of the hard work, commitment and dedication that our dancers had during this process. May this be the first competition of many!

LYG Borough Finals
15 May 2024On Wednesday 15th May, the Dance Department took 11 KS3/KS4 dancers to Dagenham Park to compete in their very first dance Competition called the London Youth Games Borough Dance Finals. We competed in the KS4 category and…. WE WON and made it to the LYG Regionals Dance Competition at the Cooper Box Arena on Friday 28th June against all other finalists from other boroughs!!!! These students only had 3 intense rehearsals to prepare for this competition and Mrs Agyekum, Mr Turner and Miss Maynard honestly could not be any prouder!

Homebros Afro Workshop
13 Mar 2024As students consistently demanded for another Afro Dance Workshop by Homebros this year, we made it happen. On Wednesday 13th March, for the 3rd year in a row, Kurtyswift, one ½ of Homebros, came in to deliver an Afro workshop to our students from Years 7-13. During the 3-hour intensive, students learnt modern African dance styles and then were taught choreography to go into our Dance Showcase. Always such a vibe and great day.

Basketball Halftime Performance
28 Feb 2024Our Academy Dancers made history for our Dance Department by organising the very first Basketball Halftime Performance at our home game on Wednesday 28th February. The commitment and dedication our dancers had in to preparing for this student-choreographed performance was a lovely process to watch! Maybe this will be the first of many.

Waacking Workshop with Mich
13 Feb 2024Michelina Lecce came to the Barking Abbey Dance Department on Tuesday 13th February 2024 to deliver a 3-hour intensive in Waacking dance style. This was a piece of choreography that we then rehearsed as a department and added to our ‘Level Up’ March Showcase.

Boy Blue Studio Show
10 Dec 2023The Dance Department were given an amazing opportunity to perform for a 2nd year in a row, at Boy Blue’s Studio Show on Sunday 10th December for the UK's leading Hip Hop Company called Boy Blue. After a successful audition process, and such a short space of time to prepare, 7 dancers took the stage and represented Barking Abbey in a phenomenal performance inspired by a Black History Month piece performed at our BHM Showcase.

Day at The Place with Baptise
29 Nov 2023Our Dance Academy students visited The Place for a day on Wednesday 29th November 2023 to participated in two BA-Hons-level workshops. One of the workshops was a Contemporary workshop delivered to us by Baptise Bourgougnon. This workshop consisted of degree-level exercises and sequences that our dancers got to embody.

Day at The Place with Olu
29 Nov 2023Our Dance Academy students visited The Place for a day on Wednesday 29th November 2023 to participated in two BA-Hons-level workshops. One of the workshops delivered by Olu Alatise, was a fun and dynamic Afro workshop. Students learn some of the basics of modern African dance styles and then applied this to various tasks given.
