St John Ambulance Training Session
We are delighted to share the success of the recent St John Ambulance training session, which brought together students from Years 9, 10, and 11 for a lesson of vital first aid learning. It was heartening to see students from different year groups working so well together, fostering teamwork and mutual support throughout the session.
The training was designed around a realistic and thought-provoking role play, challenging students to respond to a series of emergencies. In the scenario, a group of young people faced a situation involving a spiked vape, a stabbing that resulted in the victim becoming unconscious, and the urgent need to address a catastrophic bleed. The roleplay also explored the challenges of dealing with alcohol or drug intoxication and the importance of recognising signs of deteriorating mental health in individuals following a traumatic first aid incident.
During the session, students developed critical first aid skills and demonstrated their learning in practical applications. Every participant successfully placed their partner in the recovery position, administered a tourniquet, and performed chest compressions to the beat of Baby Shark, making the session both engaging and memorable.
This experience not only equipped students with life-saving techniques such as performing a primary survey and CPR but also emphasised the importance of empathy, composure, and teamwork in high-pressure situations. It was inspiring to witness their maturity as they embraced this hands-on learning opportunity.
Students highlighted the value of the sessions in the feedback:
‘I learnt vital info on how to possibly save a person's life if the circumstances called for it, and I found that the pace of the session was well thought out.’
We extend our sincere gratitude to St John Ambulance for delivering such a valuable workshop. Their expertise and dynamic approach have given our students the confidence and skills to act decisively in emergencies.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiastic participation and look forward to future opportunities to strengthen our community's preparedness and compassion.
