Exam Success

15 Aug 2024

Once again Barking Abbey have smashed it with outstanding A level and Vocational results. Grade boundaries have returned to 2019 levels and all schools were expecting a drop on their 2023 results. Nationally a drop at the high end was also expected.

Not at Barking Abbey. We have gone up in every measure since 2023.

  • At the top end we have 4% more A* and A grades with 1 in 5 grades for all A levels an A* or A.
  • Nearly half of all grades at A level were A* to B. This is again up by 4% on last year.
  • Vocational results improved again with our average grade now a Distinction and nearly 25% Distinction *.
  • 38 pupils achieved all A* and A grades or equivalent. This is 15% of our students. 16 of these were at A Level- names below- Vocational to follow.
  • We are expecting over 200 of our pupils to be starting University in September- many the first in their families to do so. Crucially 60% of these are attending the prestigious Russell Group Universities. This is compared to 25% nationally.
  • We have supported 15 pupils to gain highly competitive degree apprenticeships and 9 pupils to achieve a scholarship to a US University.
  • Subjects that improved strongly on 2023 were Biology, Business studies, Chemistry, Economics, Psychology, RE and Sociology. Other subjects maintained their strong results in line with last year.
