Cooking Training from the Professionals

06 Oct 2022

On Thursday 6th October a company called Hustle Eats came to our Hospitality Department at Sandringham road. They were preparing for a large community event taking place at Manor Junior on Friday 7th.

Hustle Eats is run with the aim of introducing young people to the Catering and Hospitality industry as well as providing workshops on how to look after your finances. Company CEO Andrew Williams says “We aim to set up youngsters with the knowledge they need to be young adults as well as introducing them to the world of food and Hospitality”.

Also participating was chef Matt Scully who said, ”I love to show young people the potential of a career in the food industry. It is my passion. The kids here have been wonderful”.

All the students involved helped to prepare over 100 meals of fine Caribbean jerk chicken with sides. As well as this, they received a fascinating talk from Matt about the various jobs and roles in the food industry.

When asked about how useful the day was, a year 11 student said, “ I loved learning to work as part of a team” and gave his opinion of the day as “fabulous”.

All the students worked very hard but also did a fantastic job of showcasing just how skilful and adaptable the students of Barking Abbey can be.
