Parent Governor Vacancy Vote
The parents of children attending Barking Abbey School are invited to vote for the appointment of one Parent Governor to serve on the school’s Governing Body.
We have received four nominations. A ballot form and information regarding the candidates has been sent to all families today. Please return your ballot form to any of the school offices before the closing date of Friday, 14th March 2014.

Please see below for amended guidelines regarding taking your child out of school for religious observance, these differ slightly from those emailed to parents earlier this week.
The school MUST be informed, in advance, if you wish to take your child out of
school for a religious festival. The school allows one day to be taken for religious observance for which a request form should be completed in advance.

Barking Abbey is delighted to announce our examinations results for 2013.
Our results rose, despite a drop in results nationally at both A level and GCSE.
For the sixth form, the pass rate for Grades A*-E went up to 99.4%; for Grades A*-C it rose to 74.1% and for Grades A*-A it was 16.4%. The Average Points Score per entry rose again to 221.6 (12% above the national average).
At GCSE, 5 or more A*-C Grades including English and Maths went up to 65.4% while the overall 5 or more Grades at A*-C increased to 88.4% (well above the national average). 52 students gained at least 5 A* and A grades.
Congratulations to all the students and staff who worked so hard to ensure that these results were some of the best in the school’s history.
Important Notice for Parents
There is a change to the law on authorising holidays during term time, with effect from this September. There is also a further change to penalty notices. Please click here for more information from the DFE
The government are removing, from the 2006 Registration Regulations, reference to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments make clear that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Aiming high for your GCSEs this summer?
We are delighted to announce a new High Performance Programme for our September 2013 intake into Year 12. This is designed for students with at least 6 A* and A grades at GCSE and will give you an individual programme of contacts, support and guidance to the Top 40 universities including the Russell Group and Oxbridge.

Congratulations to the Under-19 Girls, Under-15 and Under-16 Boys Basketball teams; and the Under-19 Netball team. They are all National Champions for 2012.
